UND’s Student Managed Investment Fund won first place in the undergraduate division of a March 18-20 global investment forum, the university announced Thursday.
The competition represented 302 universities from 73 countries. The top 50 performing funds entered their portfolios in the Redefining Investment Strategy Education competition for a three-day event.
The UND team was one of nine student-managed funds to be honored in the competition. The team has attended the RISE competition for the past three years and won fourth place in 2008.
Each semester, 36 juniors and seniors from the UND College of Business and Public Administration take part in the class and select five officers to represent the group at the national conference.
The student group started in 2005 after a $100,000 gift was given to the UND Foundation, and they received another $500,000 gift in spring 2006. Additional gifts since then contributed to the current total of $900,000.
