Estelline Awarded $412,000 for Water Infrastructure Improvements
PIERRE, S.D. - The community of Estelline has been awarded a $412,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to assist with improvements to its water distribution and storage system, Gov. Mike Rounds said today.
“Making infrastructure improvements such as these will greatly increase the efficiency and quality of Estelline’s water system,” the Governor said. “I’m pleased to allocate grant money for quality projects such as this.”
Improvements include installing new water mains; replacing cast iron mains with PVC pipe; replacing about 300 service connections, lines and valves; replacing and installing new fire hydrants; and constructing an elevated storage tank and shallow well.
“Projects like this bring South Dakota closer to achieving the goals of my 2010 Initiative to improve the quality of life in our state,” Gov. Rounds said.
CDBG is a reimbursement program, and the community will receive the funds as work is completed.
The CDBG program provides communities with financial resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Past grants have been used for improvements and construction of community buildings, fire halls, water systems, and sewer systems.
The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the CDBG program, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development administers it.
