North Dakota Congressman Pomeroy secures more than $30 million for North Dakota military bases
By: Press Release, Congressman Earl Pomeroy's Office
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Earl Pomeroy announced today that he has secured $30.465 million to strengthen military bases in North Dakota. This funding was included in the Fiscal Year 2011 Military Construction – Department of Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill passed yesterday by the Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies.
“This important funding will invest in critical infrastructure at North Dakota’s Air Force and National Guard bases,” Congressman Pomeroy said. “These new facilities will ensure that our bases remain amongst our nation’s top military installations and will aid our airman and guardsmen in fulfilling their critical national security functions now and into the future.”
Funding for North Dakota includes:
Air Traffic Control Complex at Minot Air Force Base - $18.77 Million
The existing air traffic control tower at Minot Air Force Base has many associated problems such as inadequate heating and cooling, as well as leaking during rainstorms. This funding will be used to construct an 11-story control tower and consolidated facility to house Minot Air Force Base operations. This complex will replace the existing tower, providing for more efficient control operations by consolidating operations by collocating the air traffic control and base operations.
Readiness Center Addition/Alteration at Camp Grafton, Devils Lake - $11.2 Million
This funding will provide an addition to the existing armory and will provide 200 Army National Guard personnel with the necessary facilities to achieve proficiency in required training. Completion will allow for consolidation of training functions cutting overall training costs. This request supports the President’s budget recommendation.
Central Deployment Center at Grand Forks Air Force Base - $495,000
This funding will go towards the planning design of a Central Deployment Center where a number of the base’s functions will be consolidated. The new center will give personnel an indoor space to load cargo, prepare for missions, and perform other duties.
