The Duluth Airport Authority is hoping to secure a $600,000 grant that would be used toward luring another airline to the airport.
While a specific carrier or destination hasn’t been determined, authority director Bryan Ryks said, the focus is on having an airline that goes directly from Duluth to Chicago’s O’Hare International airport.
“We want it to be generic in case other opportunities arise,” Ryks said.
It also hasn’t been determined what the authority will do with the grant money if it’s procured, but possibilities include using it to help a carrier with start-up costs or marketing in the Duluth area.
Ryks said the deadline to apply for the grant is at the end of the month. He did not know when the authority will learn if it received the money.
