Allegiant Air will begin service from Grand Forks, ND, to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in mid-November.
The news was confirmed late Tuesday in an e-mail from Allegiant spokesperson Tyri Squyres. She said flights will run twice weekly and will be launched at a low price.
The official announcement will be made at a 10 a.m. press conference today at Grand Forks International Airport.
Grand Forks Airport Authority officials have been talking with Allegiant about adding nonstop service to Phoenix, plus other western destinations such as Denver and Salt Lake City.
Allegiant began flights to Las Vegas from Grand Forks last September. Airport authority officials told the Herald in March that Vegas flights were flying near full capacity.
Allegiant added a nonstop flight from Fargo to Los Angeles in May.
