United Airlines to launch Duluth (MN) to Chicago flights in December

United Airlines made it official: The carrier will launch twice-daily direct service between Duluth and Chicago come Dec. 17.

United Airlines made it official Tuesday: The carrier will launch twice-daily direct service between Duluth and Chicago come Dec. 17.

Word of the new service leaked out Sunday, as United began to market tickets for the Duluth-Chicago flights online.

The flights will be provided courtesy of SkyWest Airlines, a regional airline affiliate operating under the United Express banner. The aircraft used to shuttle travelers between Chicago and Duluth will be CRJ-200 jets, with seating capacity for 50 people.

U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar, D-Chisholm, hailed the announcement, especially in light of a recent groundbreaking for a new main air terminal in Duluth.

“Right now we are making a multimillion-dollar investment in a new airport terminal in Duluth because air service is vital to our regional economy,” he said in a statement issued this afternoon. “United’s investment in Duluth is adding momentum to that effort, and these additional flights will give travelers more ways to come to the Twin Ports for business and tourism.

From United’s hub in Chicago, travelers will be able to link non-stop to dozens of U.S. cities, as well as destinations in Europe, Asia, South America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
