BISMARCK – North Dakota’s oil tax revenues took another nearly $1 billion hit in an updated revenue forecast released Wednesday, but the picture for general fund revenues was nearly $131 million rosier than in January, leaving some lawmakers scratching their heads as they pointed to slumping oil prices and a drop in drilling activity.
FARGO – The U.S. economy is in good shape overall, but danger looms in the form of government debt and what may happen when the Federal Reserve eventually takes certain steps such as selling the trillions of dollars’ worth of bonds it purchased in recent years.
WASHINGTON - The Federal Reserve on Wednesday said the U.S. economy was expanding "at a solid pace" as it largely looked through weakness overseas in a signal that it remains on track to raise interest rates later this year.

CROSBY, N.D., Jan 11 (Reuters) - Just over a decade ago, this sleepy farming community on the fringe of North Dakota's Bakken shale formation hosted the state's first horizontal oil well to be hydraulically fractured, or fracked, helping set in motion an economic revolution that shook the world.
The drop in oil prices is putting money in consumers’ pockets and is “a good thing, basically” for the U.S. economy, Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Narayana Kocherlakota said at a town hall at his bank’s headquarters.
BISMARCK – House Majority Leader Al Carlson said Dec. 29 he plans to introduce a bill next month that would phase out North Dakota’s personal and corporate income taxes, going a step further than a fellow Republican’s proposal.
